50th Anniversary Celebration
I am sure that you were as impressed and touched as I was by the wonderful display of talent and enthusiasm of our children on Friday. It was a wonderful example of all that we do at Killearn. It was also lovely to see former pupils, parents and staff. The Photo Gallery was a real success with lots of memories being sparked off by some very special photos and artefacts. (No more comments on my hairstyles, please). Thank you also for the donations of £179 to the school fund.
Leavers Assembly 2012
What a fantastic job Primary 7 did with this! There was a definite need for hankies at the end. The dance, memories, wishes for the future, musical presentations and the PowerPoint were all superb, and all done by the pupils themselves. Creatively and technically, it was a master class. Curriculum for Excellence in practice – perhaps the last time I will have to mention that.

Nursery Art Sale
This was a lovely event last Friday with wonderful works of art from our youngest children and so far it has raised nearly £800 for their funds. Grateful thanks to everyone who came along and spent their money to support the fantastic work of our nursery. Well done to Margaret and Kate for all the work they put into this (and their families too).
Summer Closure
Our school will close at 12.30 p.m. tomorrow, Friday 22nd June 2012.
Please note there will be no Nursery sessions in the afternoon. All children will attend short sessions in the morning.
Equipment for Pupils
Parents often ask what equipment their children should bring to school. Here are a few suggestions:
- Pencils for writing (but not ones with gadgets/toys on the end)
- Coloured pencils
- Sharpener and Rubber (preferably not the plastic kind)
- Pritt Stick (would be appreciated)
- Fine red pen (P6 & P7 for spelling)
- Indoor Shoes
- Gym bag with shorts and ‘t’ shirt (our own Fairtrade ones)
- School Bag
- Named water bottle
Due to rising costs we are asking for a donation of £3 towards Keep in Touch and Student Planners for next session. These are our main means of communication between home and school but they are personalised and costs are rising.
Could I urge all parents to name all items of clothing? The mountain of lost and unnamed items really is unbelievable at times. Please remember to name lunch boxes also. Can I ask that pupils do not bring their lunches in carrier bags as they tend to get mixed up or lost?
Parental Involvement
May I offer sincere thanks to all parents who have made a special effort to contribute to the experience of our children throughout this session. Involvement in after school clubs, school productions, helping with outings, visiting classes, working with staff and children has enriched our children’s experiences.
Footwear and Clothing Grants
Families receiving some benefits may be eligible for footwear and clothing grants from the Council.
Even if you do not receive benefits, you may still be eligible for a grant if your income is below a certain level. The number of children on Footwear and Clothing is a significant factor in our allocation for Support for Learning and therefore has an importance beyond just helping those who qualify.
For further information and applications forms, please contact the school (550430), Council Office or Education Services at Viewforth, Stirling.
MAC Fundraising – Friday 1st June
Total now stands at £970 after the payment to the company. Thank you for your generosity.
Just to say
At this time I would like to acknowledge and praise the tremendous commitment, hard work and enthusiasm of all staff in the school. Every member of staff has committed themselves to provide the very best experience for all our pupils. Thank you everyone. To those who are moving on, Jill Turner, to a permanent post in Perth and Kinross and Suzanne Dow, grateful thanks and very best wishes for the future.
Welcome back Angela Govenden and Gillian Evans and new appointment, Caroline Darroch, to the team next session.
I would also like to thank all parents, families and friends of Killearn Primary. There is a superb community behind and within the school. May I express my gratitude to the Parent Council, PTA, Parent Helpers, Killearn Trust and members of the various groups within the school, for everything that they do for the school.
An enormous Thank You to all our children. Those who have worked hard and contributed to all the activities and events. Those who have taken on tasks and responsibilities and done them so well. Those who have made my day fun and interesting by telling me and showing me what they do. I am very proud of you and wish you all a lovely summer. Be back safe and well after the holidays.
Finally
From me a very sincere thanks for allowing me to be part of your lives in the last 21 years. To parents, carers colleagues, friends, but most especially –pupils, past and present, I will miss you so much but I will remember so many happy times in this wonderful school.
Thank you so much for the beautiful gifts, I can’t believe how appropriate the two pictures are. I will look at them both often and remember Killearn Primary School as the most special time in my life.
I wish Pamela Craigie the very best for the future. I know that with your support she will find great satisfaction and achievement in being part of the success of Killearn Primary School.
Good Luck Primary 7 at High School! Goodbye to those families who leave us. It has been a pleasure sharing you and your children’s lives.
Goodbye.
